3-day notice posted? Tell tenants, skip the lines.

By the USMail.ai team, more than 50 years of combined expertise in printing and mailing

Statutes checked October 29, 2026

Direct answer: Your tenant is sent a copy of the 3-day notice you already served or posted, and we print and mail it Certified or First-Class once you approve. Three days is shorter than First-Class Mail's 1-5 business days, so serve the notice by your statute's methods first; mail is the follow-up copy.

Statutes checked October 29, 2026: https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?lawCode=CCP&sectionNum=1162, https://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2026/83.56, https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/PR/htm/PR.24.htm, https://www.usps.com/ship/first-class-mail.htm. General information, not legal advice.

Why is mail only the follow-up for a 3-day notice?

A 3-day window is shorter than the 1-5 business days USPS lists for First-Class Mail on its First-Class Mail page, and USPS delivery times vary. So where a statute pairs hand delivery or posting with a mailed copy, do the hand delivery or posting first, then send the mailed copy right away. This page covers that mailed copy only.

What do state statutes say about the mailed copy?

  • California. CCP 1162 pairs leaving a copy with a person of suitable age and discretion, or posting it, with "sending a copy through the mail." See California 3-day notice? Send it Certified.
  • Florida. Fla. Stat. 83.56(4) lists "mailing" as one way to deliver the written notices, alongside delivering a true copy, e-mail under s. 83.505, or leaving a copy if the tenant is absent.
  • Texas. Property Code 24.005(f-3) lists mail, delivery to the inside of the premises, hand delivery, or agreed electronic communication.

Check with an attorney or your court before you rely on any of it.

Certified or First-Class for the mailed copy?

Certified Mail gives you a USPS mailing record and tracking events. First-Class costs less with no tracking record. Neither guarantees delivery. Certified Mail is $1.15 plus the current USPS Certified Mail fee, which USPS publishes in Notice 123. You see the full price before you approve. We don't offer paper Return Receipt yet.

How do you send the mailed copy with USMail.ai?

You upload. You approve. We produce. Upload the same notice you served or posted, type the tenant's address, pick the mail class, check the proof and the full price, and approve. We print, envelope and hand it to USPS. From our own production floor: we print, envelope and hand each piece to USPS, and you see the proof and the full price before you approve. Every address comes from you. We check every address before mailing, and the AI never suggests or adds one. If plans change, you can unapprove an approved job before its mail date, and the money goes back on your meter balance, not your card.

Letters starting at $1.15, postage included. For a one-page, single-sided, black-and-white First-Class letter. USMail.ai is an AI print-to-mail platform, not USPS.

What happens after the 3 days?

That depends on your state and your facts. For what comes next in each state, see the eviction notices hub.

What should you keep for your records?

Keep a copy of the notice exactly as you approved it, the date you approved the job, and the mail date. If you chose Certified Mail, save the USPS tracking events as they post. Those records show what you sent and when it went to USPS. They don't prove what the tenant received, and we don't promise how a court will treat them. If you send the same notice to more than one adult on the lease, give each person their own letter with their own name and address, so every record matches one person. Your attorney or your court's self-help center can tell you what to bring if the case goes forward.

Which state page should I read?

Start with your state's page if one exists. California has its own 3-day page with the CCP 1161 and 1162 text. For Texas and Florida, the eviction state pages quote the delivery rules. If your state has no page yet, read your state's statute or ask your court's self-help center which delivery methods it lists, and whether a mailed copy is required, allowed or not mentioned.

Can I send the mailed copy the same day I post?

You can approve the mailed copy the same day you post or hand-deliver the notice. We print and hand it to USPS after approval, but we don't promise a mail time, and USPS delivery times vary. Approve as soon as the other step is done.
