Certified or Certificate of Mailing? Choose on screen.

By the USMail.ai team, more than 50 years of combined expertise in printing and mailing

Direct answer: Get the USPS record your notice needs by picking Certified Mail or Certificate of Mailing on the proof, then approving, and we print and mail it. Certified Mail is an extra-cost USPS service with a tracking number. Certificate of Mailing is USPS evidence that the piece was mailed, with no tracking.

Letters starting at $1.15, postage included. For a one-page, single-sided, black-and-white First-Class letter.

How do Certified Mail and Certificate of Mailing differ?

Certified Mail gives you a USPS tracking number, so you can follow the letter through USPS scan events. It is an extra-cost USPS service. Certified letters cost $1.15 plus the current USPS Certified Mail fee, and USPS tracking is included with every Certified letter. Certified is a mail class you choose before you approve, never an add-on. We don't offer paper Return Receipt yet. See what Certified Mail costs for the full Certified page.

Certificate of Mailing is USPS evidence that the piece was mailed. It has no tracking, and it doesn't show delivery. See how pricing works for what a mailing costs on USMail.ai.

What does Certified Mail tracking show?

Certified Mail includes a USPS tracking number, and the tracking is part of the service rather than something you add later. On USMail.ai, Certified tracking can show USPS scan events. If the rule you follow calls for a signed Return Receipt, note that we don't offer it yet, so ask your counsel how to handle that part.

What does Certificate of Mailing show?

Certificate of Mailing shows that the piece was mailed. It has no tracking, and it doesn't show delivery. Some senders pick it when a dated USPS record of sending is all their situation calls for. Your counsel or regulator is the right person to say whether that is enough for your notice.

Does regular First-Class mail come with tracking?

No. A regular First-Class letter has no USPS tracking number. Only Certified Mail and Priority Mail include USPS tracking. If you need to follow a letter through USPS, choose Certified or Priority on the proof.

Which one does my notice require?

General information, not legal advice. Rules change and vary by situation. Confirm what applies to you with your counsel or your state regulator before you mail.

We don't say which method a law, regulation or contract requires. That depends on the rule and your situation. Ask your counsel or regulator which method to use, then pick it on the proof. USMail.ai is an AI print-to-mail platform: You upload. You approve. We produce. We print and mail your notice in the class you choose.

Can I mix classes in one mailing?

Yes, as separate jobs. You can send the full list First-Class and a smaller group by Certified Mail in a second job. The disconnect notice mailing page and the practice closing letters page show examples.

How does a mailing work?

You upload your letter or notice as a PDF or document, plus your mailing list. You supply every address; the AI never suggests or adds one. We check every address before mailing, and the AI never suggests an address; every address comes from you. USMail.ai is not USPS.

Next, you review the proof. Check the layout, the address block and the mail class: First-Class, Certified Mail, Priority or Certificate of Mailing. A person on your team approves before anything is produced. You need a USMail.ai account, and you can pay per mailing or keep an optional prepaid meter balance.

We print, fold and envelope each letter, add postage and hand it to USPS. If you change your mind, an approved job can be unapproved until it is processed on its mail date. Unapproving puts the money back on your meter, not back on your card.

Which mail class should I pick?

First-Class Mail is the everyday choice for letters and notices. Certified Mail includes USPS tracking. Priority Mail also includes USPS tracking. Certificate of Mailing records that the piece was mailed, with no tracking. USMail.ai is not a virtual mailbox. We print your piece and hand it to USPS, delivery timing is up to USPS, and we don't promise delivery dates.

What does it cost?

Postage is always part of the cost; it is never free. You see the complete mailing price before you approve, and there are no contracts, subscriptions or setup fees. Questions about pricing can go to info@usmail.ai.

When does my letter go to USPS?

By default, letters you approve before 10 p.m. CT are handed to USPS the next business day. USPS delivery times vary. USPS handles delivery from there.
